Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 23, 2012

When the Dallas Visitors Bureau and the Omni Hotel came together to highlight the great locations in Dallas for over 300 event planners they used a familiar game that many love to play. The game, traditionally known as scavenger hunt, has now evolved into a high-tech mobile phone interactive that is played by scanning QR codes with a Smartphone. The game is called SCANVenger Hunt and it is currently being used by destination management companies, mall properties and even PepsiCo to educate people in a high-tech exciting fashion.

Users who register to play the game are able to scan QR codes hidden within various locations at a destination. Once they have scanned the code with their Smartphone they are then prompted to answer a trivia question or perform as task to earn points for prizes. Questions are usually tied to the location, product or brand to help educate users while creating a deeper level of engagement. The platform supports rich media so you can even create questions or tasks in the form of a video or audio.

“The SCANVenger Hunt helped our guests learn more about Dallas and it was an excellent solution for our grand opening here at the Omni”, said Amy Jackson, Marketing Director at Omni Dallas Hotel.

There were six destinations that participated in the Dallas SCANVenger Hunt which included; The Omni Dallas Hotel, The Cowboys Stadium, Texas Motor Speedway, Southfork Ranch, The Sixth Floor Museum and The Great American Golf Course.

“It was lots of fun and it created interaction and competition between players,” stated Christina, Director of Guest Services. “It definitely was a great experience for our visitors this week and we are happy that it was a part of our event,” she continued.

“It was amazing to see how the process went viral as more and more attendees learned about the ScanVenger hunt and joined the fun, “ said Kevin Cassis, Omni guest. “What was more amazing was the way the process engaged the attendees to not only seek out the QR codes in places they might not have gone without the incentive but also encouraging them to interact with presenters and exhibitors to get answers to questions in the challenge,” he continued.

SCANVenger Hunts create synergy by allowing players to see their progress as well as their competitors. Players are able to view their course completion percentage and the number of points they’ve earned along the way. “Our platform is a mobile optimized web-based application therefore it works with all phone types and portable devices,” stated Sean Fields, co-founder of SCANVenger Hunt. “This enables a better experience for the user considering that they do not have to download a game app,” he added.

The SCANVenger Hunt platform can be licensed per event or for the year. When a host city or venue licenses the platform they are equipped with all they need to get started. This includes platform admin portal, QR code window clings and any additional elements they may want to add to their package like T-shirts, posters, pillows, pop up banners etc. The host also receives all of the aggregated data during the event such as scan activity, location impressions and player information.
