HITEC Conference Features Mobile Web Application, SCANVenger Hunt, to Drive Attendee-to-Exhibitor Engagement

Each year the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) hold their largest conference called HITEC. This year it was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota and included over 700 exhibitors with an attendance of just under 5,000 people. Some of their larger exhibitors included LG, Samsung, HBO and Time Warner, just name a few.

Adding a new twist to this year’s conference and trade show, HFTP chose to incorporate SCANVenger Hunt throughout their event as a way to increase foot traffic to exhibitors. Jennifer Lee, HFTP Marketing Director and her colleagues were not strangers to the game considering they had played at TSAE’s New Ideas conference. “We had done something similar in the past but it did not have that high-tech feel to it,” said Jennifer. “Some of our staff had an opportunity to experience SCANVenger Hunt before so we thought it would be a great activity to incorporate into our conference as well,” she continued.

Each participating exhibitor received their own SCANVenger Hunt game code that was scanned by attendees who were playing the game. Once the 2D game code was scanned the players were challenged with a question which usually required some form of interaction in order to get the correct answer.

The SCANVenger Hunt platform also served as a lead retrieval tool for exhibitors. When the attendee scanned the code to answer the question the activity and profile information was tracked by the platform and available to be downloaded as an Excel spread sheet. “We have gotten very positive feedback from our exhibitors,” Jennifer stated. “In fact we have visitors who did not participate this year who are already asking about participating next year so it’s been a very positive experience,” she added.
