On Tuesday, September 18, 2012, the Montgomery County Commissioners recognized the County’s Community & Economic Development Department for receiving two national awards.

The “ThinkTwice Montgomery County” program received a “2012 Achievement Award” and the “2012 Best of Category” Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo).  The NACo “Best of Category” program was initiated to highlight the most outstanding county model programs submitted to the awards competition.

“ThinkTwice” is a buy local campaign launched by Montgomery County in partnership with COX Media Group – Ohio and Comtactics. The program’s goal is to increase consumer loyalty to local businesses.

“The efforts of the ‘Think Twice MC’ program are making a difference in strengthening our local economy and building pride in the community,” said Montgomery County Commission President Judy Dodge. “No matter where you live, buying local strengthens the community by securing jobs, building momentum for future growth and putting our tax dollars back into local programs.”

“Cox Media Group – Ohio has a long history of supporting our local community and the ThinkTwice MC program is another outstanding example of that commitment,” said Rob Rohr, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Cox Media Group Ohio.  “Our mission at Cox Media Group is to inform, engage and inspire the communities we serve, and it is an honor for us to join Montgomery County on this initiative aimed at improving the quality of life in the region.”

Utilizing the SCANVenger Hunt™ platform created by Comtactics, consumers can interactively shop at local businesses. The application allows the consumer to scan QR codes displayed at storefront windows, which can give the customer a chance to redeem a coupon or even be entered in a contest to win prizes such as an iPad. “The SCANVenger Hunt™ platform is widely used by multiple industries for just about any venue. Utilizing it for a buy local campaign was an innovative way to promote local business and we are proud to be a part of it,” stated Sean Fields, CEO of Comtactics. Scanning the barcode also engages the customer to “check-in” at the local business, both increasing social media visibility and giving the business owner customer loyalty information.  To increase consumer use of the application, Cox Media Group airs commercials on local television channels which reach nearly 1.2 million viewers each day.
