ACCED-I Conference Attendees “Unmask Potential” of SCANVenger Hunt in New Orleans

Conference organizers say SCANVenger Hunt helped increase exhibitor traffic and attendee engagement during their event

Hundreds of collegiate professionals gathered in New Orleans in March for the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International (ACCED-I) 34th annual conference, the organization’s premier education and networking event.  This year’s conference theme was “Unmask Potential”, and for the first time, conference organizers and attendees got to “unmask” how SCANVenger Hunt can help increase exhibitor traffic and attendee engagement without breaking the bank.

“Our goals were two-fold,” said Karen Nedbal, Executive Director of ACCED-I. “We wanted to get away from the traditional punch card system, while ensuring that our exhibitors got as much traffic as possible.”  Organizers of this year’s ACCED-I conference had already experienced SCANVenger Hunt at another conference of meeting professionals and felt it would meet their needs. “They (SCANVenger Hunt) were happy to work with us and they were really great about telling us how we could use their product,” Nedbal said.

ACCED-I integrated SCANVenger Hunt into its event by encouraging exhibitors to post QR codes that an attendee could then scan with their smartphone.  The code revealed a question the exhibitor formulated about their product or service that helped to initiate a dialogue between the exhibitor and attendee.  “The ones (exhibitors) who liked SCANVenger Hunt the best learned that by putting questions together that really enlightened our members, got the best interactions.”

Attendees also enjoyed the fun and competitiveness of SCANVenger Hunt because “the more booths they went to, the more points they got.”  Nedbal said points leaders won a number of prizes, including cash prizes.

Nedbal added that ACCED-I was able to save time and money because the organization didn’t have to print hundreds of punch cards for attendees to use.

Next year’s ACCED-I annual conference moves to Chicago, and Nedbal said conference organizers look forward to using more of what SCANVenger Hunt has to offer.  “We did not use everything we could have,” Nedbal said. “We are definitely going to be working with them next year.”
